Time to Link Harris Teeter VIC cards.
Welcome Back to the Together In Education program!
The new TIE school year has begun, and it's time to re-link those VIC cards!  Money raised through this program goes to acquiring technology at Bennett Elementary.  There are several ways to link your VIC card:
  • The Harris Teeter website - My Harris Teeter profile
  • At the register at the store
  • At the Customer Service desk in the store
  • Sending your last name, VIC card number and/or a phone number to Mrs. Maher (
As an added bonus this year, Harris Teeter has  decided to reward 14 lucky customers for linking their VIC cards. Every customer that links their VIC card for the 2014-15 school year will be automatically entered to win $200 in Harris Teeter gift cards for themselves, as well as $200 for the school that they support! Drawings will begin on August 6, and run through November 5!
Make sure to link your VIC card; you and Bennett Elementary School could be winners!

Bennett Student is Gandhi Art Exhibit winner
Taylor Haley, a 5th grader at Bennett, won third place for her photography at the Gandhi art exhibit at James Madison University.  Her competition was world wide and got many applicants from Russia, Denmark, China, and more.  The theme of the competition was diversity and she chose the image of three different colored leaves.  For her artist statement she wrote, "My picture shows diversity because all the leaves are different. Some of the leaves have speckles while others are plain. Also, each leaf comes from a different kind of tree and are different colors. The connecting stems show that they are all connected. Even though they don’t look like each other, they all share the same background."

Dr. Michael Otagbe Visits Bennett
Though they were both born in Africa, Dr. Michael Otagbe in Nigeria, and Bennett Student Jeanie Koepsell in Mozambique, they hadn’t met until just recently. In a surprise visit, School Board Member Dr. Otagbe came to congratulate Bennett’s students and staff on being named a School of Excellence. The two enjoyed meeting someone from their home continent of Africa.  Though both speak different native and tribal languages, they were unfamiliar with each other's and communicated in English.

Bennett Recognized as School of Excellence

Congratulations to the student, staff, and Bennett parent community on being recognized as a Prince William County School of Excellence based on our data from the 2012-2013 school year. This prestigious award is based on multiple factors of student achievement and overall school climate.

Schools can receive a maximum of 100 points, Bennett's score was 95! 90 points are needed to receive the award.

We would like to thank the teachers, students, and community that made this very special designation happen. Our Associate Superintendent, Mr. Todd Erickson will join us in a school based celebration later this year!
